Abbie Hernandez
Young Adult Specialist
Life as an adult can feel overwhelming: navigating relationships, career decisions, identity questions, and all the pressures that come with this season of life. I'm passionate about helping you figure out who you are and feel more confident in your own skin during these pivotal years.
Hello! I'm Abigail. You can call me Abbie. I believe every person has a unique story, and I'm attentive to how your past experiences, culture, and personal values shape who you are today. My approach is calm, compassionate, and rooted in deep respect for your story. I'm not here to "fix" you, but to walk alongside you as we explore together what healing, growth, and self-awareness could look like in your life today.
Through our work together, I hope to help you cultivate a voice of compassion, curiosity, and care for yourself and for others, and grow into the most authentic version of you. Whether you're carrying pain, feeling stuck, or just curious about yourself, I'm here to support you, at your pace, in your story.
My Approach
My counseling style combines different approaches based on what works best for you. We're all dealing with life's challenges, and I understand that emotional struggles are complex and need personalized care.
I focus on creating a space where you can understand your own story, feel truly heard, and find real healing and hope in your life right now. I believe in meeting you exactly where you are and working together toward where you want to be.
What I Can Help With
I work with adults facing a variety of challenges, including:
Anxiety and depression
Life transitions
Relationship stress and setting boundaries
Social media anxiety and comparison
Stress and burnout
Spiritual questions and concerns
Figuring out your identity and what you want in life
Body Image and Self Esteem
I primarily use approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and am committed to staying current with effective methods. I'm also fluent in Spanish and can provide services in both English and Spanish - whichever feels more comfortable for you. I have an advanced proficiency in Spanish & can provide care utilizing both languages.
My Background
I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish, and I'm currently completing my Master's in Clinical Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. My experience includes research with individuals facing eating challenges and three years walking alongside college students and young adults through my church’s college and young adult ministry.
How We'll Work Together
The most important thing to me is building a good connection with you. I'll clearly explain how therapy works, listen to your story without making assumptions, and we'll figure out your goals together. I'm committed to meeting you where you are, especially if you're unsure about therapy. I'll be honest with you and share observations in a caring, non-judgmental way. I want our sessions to feel collaborative—like we're figuring things out together.
When I’m Not Seeing Clients…
When I’m not seeing clients, you can usually find me outside—whether that’s going for a run, a walk, or simply soaking in as much of the Texas heat as I can handle. I love slow mornings with coffee and time spent with my husband. I enjoy being creative through writing, drawing, and watercolor, and I find joy in hosting - whether that’s sharing a meal or gathering friends for a cozy movie night. I’m a sucker for Fall, and you can find me with Gilmore girls on repeat from September-December!
